In October, at the third meeting of the EU Working Party on Atomic Questions, held during the Hungarian EU Presidency, Member States reviewed the situation of nuclear safety and security of nuclear installations in Ukraine.
According to the EU Nuclear Safety Directive (2014/87/EURATOM (NSD)), every six years a thematic peer review (Topical Peer Review - TPR), i.e. a peer review focusing on a specific technical area, is required in all Member States where nuclear installations are in operation.
Andrea Beatrix Kádár, President of the Hungarian Atomic Energy Authority (HAEA), received on 8 October 2024 William D. Magwood, Director General of the Nuclear Energy Agency of the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD NEA). At the bilateral meeting among other issues the parties reviewed the main developments since the OECD NEA Director General's last visit to Budapest in 2021, and questions related to small modular reactors.
The delegation of the Hungarian Atomic Energy Authority, led by President Andrea Beatrix Kádár, participated in the 68th General Conference of the International Atomic Energy Agency, which began on 16 September 2024 in Vienna.
From September 17, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) held a 4-day workshop involving experts from the United States of America and the Netherlands. The event was partly hosted by the Hungarian Atomic Energy Authority and partly by the Paks Nuclear Power Plant.
