International experts through the International Atomic Energy Agency’s (IAEA) Integrated Regulatory Review Service (IRRS) arrived in Hungary to review the national nuclear regulatory framework. The international peer review takes place between 6 and 17 October 2025 in Budapest. The IRRS is an integrated approach to assessing the regulatory framework and the activities of regulatory bodies involved in the oversight of nuclear safety. The review was initiated by Ms Andrea Beatrix Kádár, President of the HAEA on behalf of Hungary.
The General Assembly and seminar of the Group of European Municipalities with Nuclear Facilities (GMF) were held in Paks, Hungary this year. The GMF, which facilitates the exchange of information among the local population living near nuclear facilities related to the use of nuclear energy, celebrated its 25th anniversary in Paks on September 24, 2025. During the event, Hungarian Atomic Energy Authority also presented its regulatory tasks and provided information on its activities in the field of public communication.
As part of a program at the Ludovika University of Public Service, an Uzbek delegation visited the Hungarian Atomic Energy Authority (HAEA) on 25 September 2025 to learn about its supervisory role and experiences. The delegation consisted of senior experts from the Uzbek Parliament, the Uzbek Ministry of Energy, and Uzbek energy market and research institutions. Representatives familiarized themselves with the regulatory responsibilities of the HAEA, in particular the licensing process for new nuclear power plant units, as well as the Hungarian regulations on physical protection and the safeguards system.
The Hungarian Atomic Energy Authority (HAEA), in cooperation with the US Department of Energy, organized a workshop on the protection of programmable systems between September 9 and 11, 2025, which was hosted by the HAEA. The event provided an opportunity for Hungarian experts to expand their knowledge and develop their skills in the field of nuclear security cyber defense.
The 69th General Conference of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) took place in Vienna between September 15 and 19, 2025, with the participation of a delegation from the Hungarian Atomic Energy Authority (HAEA) led by President Andrea Beatrix Kádár. Every year, the event provides an opportunity for delegations from IAEA member states to hold bilateral and multilateral discussions and organize thematic meetings.
