The 69th General Conference of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) took place in Vienna between September 15 and 19, 2025, with the participation of a delegation from the Hungarian Atomic Energy Authority (HAEA) led by President Andrea Beatrix Kádár. Every year, the event provides an opportunity for delegations from IAEA member states to hold bilateral and multilateral discussions and organize thematic meetings.

The 69th Regular Session of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) General Conference is being convened in Vienna from September 15 to 19, 2025. In conjunction with the General Conference, which serves as the principal decision-making body of the IAEA, a Scientific Forum titled "Atoms for Water" will be organized on September 16-17. The Forum will delve into the contributions of nuclear science and technology towards the sustainable and efficient management of global water resources. The Forum's segments will address, among other topics, the role of nuclear science and technology in enhancing the sustainability of global water management, the analysis of nuclear and radiation-based technologies in mitigating and managing the global decline in water quality, and an overview of escalating water challenges, including the application of IAEA grants to Member States for the management and protection of water resources.

On 5 August 2025 the Hungarian Atomic Energy Authority (HAEA) submitted to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) the self-assessment documentation for the upcoming IAEA Integrated Regulatory Review Service (IRRS) mission, reviewing the Hungarian regulatory framework for the safe and peaceful use of atomic energy. This article compiles all the relevant information on the mission, such as why it’s taking place, who the participants are and what the outcome of the team’s work will be.
Recent Developments in Nuclear Safety in Hungary, June 2025

The latest issue of Hungarian Atomic Energy Authority’s Nuclear Safety Bulletin presenting a number of interesting articles is now available. The new issue covers the 2024 annual safety performance assessment of nuclear facilities, changes in legislation related to the use of nuclear energy and its supervision, the nuclear emergency preparedness, the shutdown of a main circulation pump at Paks NPP, and the cracks in the wall of the working pit of Unit 5 area and the detachment of wall corners.
HAEA signed a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation with the nuclear regulatory authority of the Arab Republic of Egypt

On 24 June 2025, Andrea Beatrix Kádár, President of the Hungarian Atomic Energy Authority, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Egyptian Nuclear and Radiological Regulatory Authority (ENRRA) with the aim of deepening bilateral professional relations. The MoU covers the exchange of information and professional experience between the two authorities, in areas such as nuclear power plant oversight, emergency preparedness, radioactive waste management, research reactor oversight and safety culture.
