On 16-17 October, 2017, the annual Austrian-Hungarian bilateral meeting was held at the headquarters of the Hungarian Atomic Energy Authority. During the meeting, which was attended by nearly 40 experts, both parties informed each other about the main changes, results and developments of the past year and the challenges ahead. The main topics of the meeting were the changes in the legal framework, the state of play of the new nuclear units at Paks NPP, the lifetime extension of the existing units, emergency preparedness, radiation monitoring, radioactive waste management in the two countries and the results of the IPPAS Mission conducted in Hungary in the summer of 2017.
On October 5, 2017, a delegation from Russian MPs (State Duma, Russian Federation) visited the HAEA. The delegation was received by Mr Gyula Fichtinger, the Director General of the HAEA, who also delivered a presentation about the HAEA's activities, nuclear and radioactive waste storage facilities and the most important regulations of the application of nuclear energy in Hungary.
The document, which contains Hungarian priority areas for the 2017-2022 period in the framework of IAEA’s Technical Cooperation Programme, was signed by Mr Dazhu Yang, Deputy Director General, Head of the Department of Technical Cooperation of the International Atomic Energy Agency and Mr Gyula Fichtinger, Director General of the Hungarian Atomic Energy Authority on the margin of the 61st IAEA General Conference, in Vienna, on 20 September 2017.
