At the fourth meeting of the Working Party on Atomic Questions (WPAQ) of the Council of the European Union held in November under the Hungarian presidency of the Council of the EU, Member States were briefed on the activities of international organisations and their technical events, and received an overview of the nuclear safety situation in Ukraine.
The autumn plenary meeting of the Western European Nuclear Authorities Association (WENRA) was held in Warsaw from 7 to 8 November 2024, with the participation of Ms Andrea Beatrix Kádár President and Mr László Juhász Vice-President of the Hungarian Atomic Energy Authority. The main topics of the meeting included the implementation of the Safety Reference Levels into the frameworks of national legislation, the status of nuclear facilities in Ukraine and the possible impact of the Elections on national nuclear programmes.
Andrea Beatrix Kádár, President and László Juhász, Vice President of the Hungarian Atomic Energy Authorithy visited Bucharest between October 29-30, 2024 at the invitation of the Romanian nuclear regulatory authority. During the two-day event, the hosts presented the main elements of the Romanian nuclear program and the ongoing activities of the authority.
The International Atomic Energy Agency’s Operational Safety Review Team (OSART) Mission aims to conduct in-depth reviews of operational safety performance at Paks Nuclear Power Plant. The mission conducted at the request of the Hungarian Atomic Energy Authority and the MVM Paks Nuclear Power Plant Ltd., began on 4 November and will last for more than two weeks.
At this session which is traditionally held twice a year, participating States exchanged views on the draft Programme and Working Budget 2025-2026 of the OECD Nuclear Energy Agency (OECD NEA), in order to ensure the continued high quality of the OECD NEA's work and a predictable funding of research in the coming period. At the meeting with the participation of the Hungarian Atomic Energy Authority, Member States agreed that the accession of the United States to the OECD NEA Data Bank provides a great potential for developing opportunities for cooperation in the field of research, and joint implementation of nuclear energy projects.
