Ms Andrea Beatrix Kádár, President of the Hungarian Atomic Energy Authority (HAEH), held a working lunch meeting with Mr Hua Liu, Deputy Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) on November 13, 2025. Mr Liu was visiting Budapest at the invitation of the HUN-REN Energy Research Centre. During the meeting, the parties reviewed the future priorities of the IAEA's technical cooperation programme, touching on domestic challenges, possible areas of training, and coordination tasks for cooperation.
Both parties agreed that ensuring adequate professional training is essential for maintaining a high level of nuclear safety. They also recognized that training in the field of new reactor technologies (e.g., small modular reactors) and their safety assessment should be prioritized, and that it is essential to examine the increasingly widespread use of artificial intelligence, as it affects the entire nuclear industry, including facilities, authorities, and the work of international organizations.
