31st Hungarian-Austrian bilateral meeting held in Austria

The 31st Hungarian-Austrian bilateral meeting took place in Rust, Austria, from 15-16 December 2025. The Hungarian delegation was led by Andrea Beatrix Kádár, President of the Hungarian Atomic Energy Authority (HAEA).


In addition to the HAEA delegates, the meeting was also attended by representatives from the Ministry of Energy of Hungary, MVM Paks Nuclear Power Plant Ltd., Paks II Ltd., Public Limited Company for Radioactive Waste Management, the National Center for Public Health and Pharmacy and the National Food Chain Safety Office.

The Austrian delegation, led by a representative of the Federal Ministry of European and International Affairs of Austria included representatives of various federal states of Austria as well as representatives of relevant ministries, the Institute of Safety- and Risk Sciences and the Federal Environment Agency of Austria.

The two-day event provided a professional forum for participants to summarize the results achieved since the previous meeting. The Hungarian and Austrian delegations gave presentations, among others, on legislative changes affecting the nuclear sector, described domestic practices in radioactive waste management, radiation protection and emergency response, and reported on the tasks carried out during the year, as well as on the monitoring activities of the authorities.

The Hungarian delegation also presented the results of the International Atomic Energy Agency’s Integrated Regulatory Review Service (IRRS) mission, conducted from 6 to 17 October 2025 in Hungary, the positive findings of the international expert group, and the progress made in the construction of the new nuclear power plant.
