The Hungarian Atomic Energy Authority (HAEA), together with the US Department of Energy, with the support of the MVM Paks NPP Ltd. and the Public Limited Company for Radioactive Waste Management, organized a tactical leadership training between 2026 February 23 and 26., focusing on the response physical protection function. The event provided an opportunity for the command staff of the Armed Security Officers and the members of the relevant law enforcement agencies to expand their knowledge and develop their skills in the tactical level command and control in case of a nuclear security event.
The training was held in two locations. The first two-day session was held in Budapest, at the HAEA headquarters, and was attended by the HAEA employees and representatives of the nuclear facilities and radioactive waste disposal sites in the capital and Pest County. The second session took place in Paks with the participation of the representatives of facilities and law enforcement agencies of Tolna County. The US instructors covered the topic and good practices related to the tactical command and control of the response forces through lectures. After that, the participants carried out tabletop exercises at a virtual nuclear power plant, using a special software provided by the US side.
The HAEA will continue to hold similar training courses and events for Hungarian professionals in cooperation with its American counterpart, thereby supporting the development of nuclear security in Hungary.
