In October 2015 within the framework of the two-week drafting school in Vienna, the International Atomic Energy Agency (hereinafter referred as IAEA) provided legal and technical assistance to 11 countries including our country. The IAEA experts together with the participants reviewed the draft legislation on radiation protection and nuclear safety focused on how they are in compliance with the IAEA requirements and recommendations, as well as with the required elements to be included.
In the two-week period
the experts reviewed the basic legal and governmental frameworks for radiation
protection, radioactive waste management, commissioning and operation of
nuclear power plants set out by IAEA and European Union (hereinafter referred
as EU) requirements and recommendations.
The participants reviewed
their national legislation. They identified the gaps and “non-compliances”
and drafted an action plan including deadlines and the required corrective
actions.
On the part of the Hungarian
Atomic Energy Authority Judit Silye EURATOM advisor and Tamás Czerovszki
nuclear safety inspector attended the drafting school. They both stressed
that the present Hungarian legislation and the upcoming legislation basically
meet the requirements of the IAEA and the EU.
