A delegation from the Hungarian Atomic Energy Authority (HAEA), led by President Andrea Beatrix Kádár, visited the United States of America at the invitation of the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) to attend its annual conference, held between 10 and 12 March, 2026. The event aimed to enable the exchange of information and professional dialogue between the US authority, licensees, industrial stakeholders and international partners on nuclear regulatory, safety and security topics, as well as application of new technologies.
During the visit, the Hungarian delegation held a bilateral meeting with Ho K. Nieh, President of the U.S. NRC and Commissioners Matthew J. Marzano and David A. Wright. Among other aspects the consultations provided an opportunity to review issues related to the further development of bilateral cooperation, experiences of regulatory efficiency and effectiveness, and regulatory tasks related to preparation for introduction of the small modular reactor (SMR) technology.
The event also offered an opportunity for further technical consultations with European and international partners.
