Training of Turkish Experts at the HAEA

2026.06.11

From June 2 to 5, 2026, a so-called “on-the-job” training was conducted at the Hungarian Atomic Energy Authority (HAEA) under the umbrella of a European Union project to further strengthening the nuclear safety and radiation protection regulator of Türkiye.

The training was delivered by Tünde Katona, a transport safety expert at the HAEA, who emphasized that a significant part of the agenda focused on presenting regulatory practices regarding how to assess the safety of transport containers (packages), how to determine compliance with criteria, and how to prepare and issue a certificate, including specifying the limitations in the certificate. The objective of the meeting was to present the HAEA’s experience gained during the licensing of various transport containers, ranging from packages suitable for the transport of radioactive materials for industrial and medical purposes to nuclear fuel transport casks.
